Blackguard
Blackguards serve the evil deities of Glorwing in much the same way as Paladins serve those of goodness. The Blackguard is the equal and opposite of a Paladin earning his power through their close relationship with the deity. Where the Paladin is goodness, light, and compassion; the Blackguard is evil, darkness, and ruthlessness.
The Blackguard spurns the pure commitment to combat techniques of a fighter and instead learns the fine arts of surprise, spell casting, poisons, and demonology. Their intense link to the powers of darkness causes powerful creatures to seek them out and ally with them. As they progress in power, the Demon who serves them increases in power as well. A Blackguard that reaches into the epic realms of the true powers in the universe, he can choose to summon a demon of nearly incalculable power. The Blackguard also spends significant time receiving religious instruction.
Blackguards can be found serving in many capacities, but gravitate toward leading the forces of Darkness in their clashes with good, or as lone warriors lending their services to whatever cause falls in line with the God they serve.
Every significant Church dedicated to a God of evil has a training facility for Blackguards. They learn combat techniques in excruciating detail much like the Sacred Knights and often train alongside them. However, their training overall is significantly different, and as such they train separately more often than not. The training to be a Blackguard requires such a bond with the Deity they choose to serve they must learn their arts in the Church. Hermit Blackguards are so rare as to be unmentionable and none of them can provide the detailed and strict religious training a Blackguard requires.
Every Deity lays out strict requirements for the Blackguards in their service.
